Sad news learning yestoday about the passing of Syd Barrett.
One of the founding member of one of the greatest bands of all time, Pink Floyd.

I think that there are tidbits of spiritual wisdom in most Pink Floyd songs ( in fact a lot of songs by a lot of artists if you listen, I believe that music comes from the Tao/Spirit/Logos within.)

The one below is about Syd, written by the other members reflecting on their old friend.

Acceptence of YOUR path

What is the need for dogma, what is the need for following in the footsteps of another. I am sure that you spent most of your formative years and adult years following the directions and instructions of those that you thought wiser or in a place of authority. There is no truth other then the one that you live, the one that you create for yourself. Trying to follow the way of another is the path to more suffering, to entrapment, to walking away from the path. You are the path, the only moment is now, so you are the creator of the path. All truths are personal at best.

Do not follow another blindly, do not perform an activity for the sake of spirituality unless it rings true to your heart, and you have criticaly examined the intentions of what you wish to get out of it. Otherwise it is just like going to church on sunday out of habit. You learn nothing, you resent it.

Which brings me to one of the dogmatic teaching styles that you might encounter as you continue your spiritual journey. You may hear or read someone say "You must learn to love the 6am, sitting in the snow drinking your own urine practice as if it were a joy, then you are trully hapy" and you think to yourself. Okay, well this guy has found this to a joy, and he says that he is enlightened so therefore I must try this. So you do, you get up everymorning and sit in the snow in the nude, and do the whole thing. And somedays its okay, and somedays you hate it. And then you begin to stress about it... how can i everbecome enlightenee if I dont love this. I have to follow everything the guru has done to reach enlightenment, so surely i must do this... oh yeah and he also told me that I have to love it as well.. And a negative feedback loop is created. The more you do it the more you are supposed to like, but in reality you hate and resent it more and more. This will continue for a time until something in you cracks, and you abandon this practice for the next thing, the teaching of the next guru. So you have thrown out the entire teachings of the guru (which may be a good or a bad thing) and moved onto the next set of dogma.

Do not put yourself into a worry/guilt/sin cycle over your spiritual practice. You do what works well for you, if it does not work well for you then it is not for you. Society is great at trying to put us square, star shaped and oval shapes into round holes. Dont do it to yourself as well.. As I am fond to say, you are you, and thank the universe for that. The last thing we need is one more clone going around expounding other peoples words and blindly following their actions.

Look at the emptyness around you. Look at the consumerism, look at the materialism. Look at the apathy of those around you.
Look at the empty hole that it leaves in those around you, look at the empty hole and the nagging feeling in you.
You know better then this don't you, you can see how crazy these modern ideas of infinite economic growth, wars for oil to maintain or consumerist lifestyles and disconnection from our communities really are. Pure crazy.

If these issues really strike at your core, like they do at mine, then hold your head up high , becuase you know better.
You know better that there must be a better way for the world. You can make the changes within youself. You can stop playing other peoples games, like a pawn on a chessboard and start playing your own, start dancing your own dance to your own song.
Feel the spirit within yourself.

These are not empty words. I am currently writng a book about a number of spiritual exercises and truths that will enable people to start to become authentic spiritual warriors, healers, teachers and participants in the great dance of life. I am also going to post heaps of this info on the site. I too will share my experiences with these exercises and ideas, to show how they can personally be intergrated into your life.

Lets see if we can reconnect with the real you, on your own terms. To be able to consistantly tell the truth to yourself and feel good about it, to feel empowered. Not in some macho, bullshit, Tony Robbins style "I can do anything" sales seminar kind of way. I mean the empowerment that those who have become free of the illusions and know themselves and the spirit fully.

Hi All,

I know that after two months break there probably arent many truth seekers left out there that are checking this page, so lets start building this crazy thing up one more time.

I have pondered such things over the last two month as the real nature of spiritual truth, the future of man, peak oil, purpose, the way people live, the nature of divinity, morality, the "other", spiritual writing, spiritual truth, teachers, learnings and generally what I am doing with my life.

These are all illusions on one level, on the other level they are as true a concept as you will ever find, especially when they come up and tap you on the shoulder and start to crawl around in your mind day after day, night after sleepless night.

I also note that a couple of other good spiritual blogs have stopped putting content out there in the last few months, a whole group of people that were really cranking out some great work. These things come in cycles, I hope that my new words will find open ears and open hearts.

Spirituality is all about the search for happiness and meaning. Everyone wants to be happy, and everyone wants to know that what we are doing here serves some purpose.

Religion uses the spiritual longing as the carrot. Then places you under its control structure.
Why would a religion want you to be enlightened? Then you would not need them anymore.
Better to keep you in the dark, wandering around, searching for a light.

The mark of a true spiritual teacher is one that gives the student clear directions to the exit whenever they ask for them, and the tools to accomplish their goals without expecting anything in return. A true spiritual teacher is a true friend, an unconditional relationship.

Once it becomes in anyway about power or authoritarian dynamics, or money for that matter then you know that you are being had.

Intelligent Connected Conversation

Nothing replenishes the human spirit quite like it.

Simple Truths

- You are a work in progress. The thought of ever reaching the end of the journey and arriving should be given great thought.

- Even though many people try to escape it, accept the fact that this is the reality we live in.

- There is no truth that cant be told to you in one minute. That being said most truths sound better when placed in the form of stories.

- Everything is a fractal. Time, matter, history, society, nature. Fractals are everywhere. As above so below.

- Dont allow yourself to be too caught up in the idea of mystery. Sure the mind needs it for stimulation and excitement, but don't let the mystery holder enslave a part of you to reveal the secret. Beware the price that you have to pay.

I think culture instills a bit of this in all of us. Some are effected more then others. In any authoritarian relationship, be it governmental, spiritual, employment etc it is this kind of false motivation to get an approval fix that causes a lot of internal dissonance and stress.

I know, ive done it. Im sure im a recovering approval addict myself.

Language

Truth does not always equal beauty when it comes to language.

Language is magick, or one of the closest things that we have to it. Language can alter peoples thoughts, can stir emotions. It can cause people to rise up and attack, or to be lulled into peace. It can propogate itself in new forms, it can twist reality by the mean of definition into neat little categories or broad generalisations. It can lay dormant in some old text book, like a seed in the soil, waiting for someone to pick it up and read it, the ideas contained within springing alive and flowering.

Always place the filter of objectivity between yourself and what you read and hear.

Do not repress the you in all of this. You are the unique spark of creation, a one off, the work of some mad genius.
You are the reason that conciousness exists. Do not fear yourself, do not fear your personality. Do not fear at all. Fear is the cause of your suffering. Not Ego, Not something that is wrong with you. Fear. That is all.

Do not homogenise yourself with the masses. I can say with 100% conviction that 99.9% of the population are enslaved within prisons of their own design. Enlightenment is not you losing the spark of you. It is losing all of the other stuff that is not you.
The conditioning, the fear, the pavlovian responses, the self inflicted pains, the worries about the future, the regrets about the past.
Question it all, get rid of it. You dont need it. No one has ever needed any of this. These are control structures instilled in you by those in authority. I repeat, you do not need them.

Enlightenment isn't about reaching some esoteric reality, and leaving your earthly body behind. Not at all. It is about waking up to the here and now, vibrant and buzzing and writhing and living all around you.

The enlightenment I speak of is not just spiritual. It is of the material plane, it is phylosophical, metaphysical, primal, real,metaphorical, allegorical, everlasting.
It is love, it is eternal bliss, it is a million other good things that people have been trying to sell you since you started your own search for the light. You dont need permission to take it, you dont need me to say that you have it. You will know it when you have it.

You are a combination of hardware and software. Hardware is your body and your brain, even your rudimentary animal behaviors. Software is cultural and learnt behavoirs, beliefs and knowledge that sits in the hardware and tells it what to do.

Pretty straight forward, everyone reading this would have thought of this analogy before I am sure.

So why do we allow our software to be corrupted so easily? Why do we let a 1000 hackers work on our core operating system, installing virus's (marketing, advertising, conditioning, responsibilites, government), recoding large portions (schools, jobs, society) or just causing mayhem.

Think of enlightenment as your own personel firewall. Think of it as the reboot button. Think of it as a defrag and a format.

Dont Just look at the "Spiritual"

make great food for enlightening thought. Just look out for the kinds of ideas that wrap you up in more headgames and tailchasing.

For example, have a good look at this site called Anxiety Culture . It puts the state of the modern world and society in a way that you may not have thought of before.

Also ive said this before but I will say it again, read Ismael by Daniel Quinn, or go over to the fantastic site Anthropik and read the Thirty Theses. All mind expanding stuff.

The About Section

I just had a look over at the ABOUT section to the right of this post, and it reminded me of the original intention of this blog, what I wanted it to say. I think my time away from the blog for the past few months has concentrated on getting the right answers to the right questions. The questions that matter.

I have been hit with an absolute avalanch of ideas, a thunderstorm of concepts, a desert morning of clarity. The past 3 months, no dare i say it, the last 12 years of intense spiritual and philosophical search have come to some sort of creshendo of understanding. Some kind of post enlightenment reckoning, the big A-ha! Now my only problem is to try to get these concepts down to paper (or blog as it may be) in some sort of readible coherent format.

There are no new ideas under the sun, all of this has been around forever. Its how that we put the peices together and creat a working map (or have it created for us as the majority of people do) that is the real interesting part.

I was reading Staceys excellent blog today and came across an excellent post on Mudane life

It struck a synchronistic chord with me, as for the last few months I have been stuck in a bit of an rut, wanting to break out of my "everyday boring life" and "experience something more." I came to realise that I could not really define that something more, and meditating on this thought I came to the following conclusion

Every waking moment is part of a continuos dialogue with the universe. You talk to it through your thoughts and actions, and it talks to your through the events in your life, the words and actions of others. Everything is a wake up call, a question, an answer in front of your eyes.

It is this exact thought that has brought me back to blogging from this long period of introspection.

The greater truths are shown to us in the mundane events of the everyday.

BUT - be also aware that 99% of what we see are lies and falsehoods. Its all an illusion (and in quite a real sense i have discovered)

I have noticed over the past few weeks that a lot people that are generally very frequent posters on spiritual topics have been posting less and less. Maybe its everybody getting busy for christmas and the end of year crazyness, or maybe it is something more.

If one looks there are always cycles and currents of thoughts swirling around the web. Ebbs and flows of thoughts, concepts and memes. An idea grabs everyone, posts are written, comments are recorded.

Perhaps a lot of us have talked ourselves into a bit of an intellectual dead end.

Lets get the conversation started, lets get the excitement and thrill of sharing ideas going once more. I promise that I will share more of what is exciting me.

Hi All,

Sorry about the break in blogging from myself but it seems as If I have been at a loss for words over the last week.

I feel that I am walking the last steps of a very long road and walking towards.. well walking towards nothing. The whole idea of enlightenment seems to have dissapeared in a big puff of smoke. The wizard is just a little guy behind a curtain. Look at the Emporers fancy new clothes.

Not that I dont feel spiritual, or connected(disconnected), or even appreciative of the cosmic whole. I think the words of Jed Mckenna are finally starting to really sink in.
Enlightenment is this term that is thrown around, but no-one really knows what it is.
Is it a state of mind, is it a feeling, is it a place? Is it all of them? People go through dark nights of the soul searching for this thing that may or may not exist, or even if they attain it will they know that they are there?
(I dont think i have ever written a post with so many ? in it :) )

If you really have a think about it how can you tell that another person is enlightened? The main tennant of my life over the last 6 months has been to question almost everything. Why do we do things this way and not that? Should we not question people who believe they are enlightened and see what makes them different to everyman on the street.

Cool, now I have thought of a heap more posts for the site....

What the seeker believes - The same old story....

There once was a young person who realised that life was more then what they saw around them. They were lost, disillusioned and without purpose. Then they discovered spirituality. A whole new world opened up to them, and they saw a purpose behind the world. They searched for years and years, going from teacher to teacher, book to book. Then one day a master appeared that showed them the way. He spoke kind words of love and ever lasting happiness. The seeker studied with the master for years, slowly learning the secretes of this advanced, ancient wisdom.
Then one day the master comes to the seeker and says. You are now worthy of this knowledge, here it is. I give you the secret, they key. You are now enlightened.

Intelligence

Suppose that there was an alien intelligence in space, and they saw the Earth. They saw that we were in dire need of help, and they had a device that would give us free, pure, clean energy forever which would help us immensly.
Would they give it to us?

Would the give it to civilized mankind, a species that when given near free energy(oil), has done nearly everything to destroy the planet and enslave nearly the whole global population as part of the civilizor machine. If everyone had free energy would the problems stop or would be just start consuming the rest of the universe?

I really am a people person.... I like everything about people.
I like how everybody has a different point of view on nearly everything. I like how we all have hopes, dreams, fears, desires, fantasies, mysteries, quests.

I like the emotional side of people, the intellectual, the spiritual, even the physical.

People spend all of this time reading books, going to movies etc. to see these marvelous fantastical tales, numb there minds with the same drama's over and over again. But the best story you ever heard in your life might be sitting next to you at work, or on the train, or stuck in a que at the bank. Have you ever really wondered how absolutely amazing each and everyone of us is.

The more spiritual and centered I have become, the only thing that I hold as real and of value is my interaction with other souls.

Thats why I love blogging so much. Its a little window into others lives, and allows them with a window into mine.

All over the world there are people searching for the answer to THE MYSTERY. What is the mystery? For some it is enlightenment, for some it is nirvana, for some it is a feeling of un-ending ultimate bliss. For others it is UFO's, or ghosts or Bigfoot. For some it is even fame and fortune.

All are seekers after that which they percieve as hidden, as other and seperate from themselves. If this is you, if you are an earnest seeker then ask yourself, When you find what you are looking for will you be happy? Is your happiness and identity tied to the search itself.
Do you want to know the truth no matter what the answer is?
Or have you already decided what the truth is, and are just looking for things to reinforce and strengthen your current worldview / illusion?

When you find what you were looking for, will you be more complete or more lost then ever.

The Nature of Mystery

A lot of spiritual traditions state that the absolute is unknowable, and that every word written about it only conveys a very vauge understanding of the actual concept. Basicly the thought that you cant express with words that which is beyond words (or you can express with thought that which is beyond thought).
This is a perfectly understandable and true concept.

However this idea of spiritual mystery has been used as another method of control by those in charge over the masses.

Ideas like :

I have been contemplating lately how a lot of populer songs contain quite profound spiritual wisdom and keys concepts of enlightenment. I was about to write this post when I decided to surf over to Dr. George Breeds blog and read some of it this morning.
Contained in a comment for his latest post were the lyrics to the song that a user had added.

A lot of people on the spiritual path get confused with the notion of truth. Before, during and after my enlightenment I had almost done away with the concept of truth.
The only concept I could grasp after going through it all is "there is no truth"

Before my enlightenment I studied every major (and minor) spiritual, philosophical and mystical tradition I could find. For about 6 years I studied every book I could get my hands on, tried to contact as many other people as I could who were on the path and meditated.

During my enlightenment, as i broke down each concept searching for the core truth I came to the realization that there was nothing to hold on to. I am not my body, i am not my mind. It is all an illusion. Everyhing part of the connected whole.The only truth is the realization that all is one. There is no begining and there certainly is no end. Enlightenment is not a state of divine bliss, it is a divine state of bliss. (I just love throwing out those contradictory statements, the more you look into spirituality the more truth you will see within them)

Now after my enlightenment I come to see that although the truth that most people seek is in essence unknowable, there is a lot to be said for spiritual wisdom.

Now going back and starting to read over the texts that before enlightenment where a confusing mismash, each one conflicting with the other, each one leading me further from the truth, I now see that a majority of spiritual writing, and that goes from your proto magick pagan stuff, to the bible, to some guys blog who likes to meditate a bit all contain elements of "truth", elements that ring true within this reality. Truths within the illusion.

So all I can say is dont limit yourself to just buddhism, or just studying the bhagvad gita, or just doing yoga, or just meditating twice per day. Get out there, look for the truth contained in it all and put the puzzle together for yourself (or more truthfully to say, PULL IT APART).
Dont get caught in the dogma, the ritual. Be a keen observer and mine for the peices that ring true to you from within.

From time to time in the future of this blog i will put forward these tidbits of wisdom (as I see them) and my comment why i think it is so.

Although I dont really agree with all of his methods I do think that it is an interesting read for any one interested in non dual spirituality and cutting through spiritual conceptions to find the truth.

Belief Systems

Each person has a belief system.

A belief system can possess a person.

A person can believe that one belief system is RIGHT.

The true nature of reality is expressed all around you. It is expressed, quite eloquently sometimes in the words of popular songs, themes of popular movies, the way that people interact with you and live their lives. People cant help BUT express it. ] Your job, your family, your social group, your car, your mortgage even are all expressions of the true nature or reality. You just dont realise it.
Everything is a lesson, everything is an adventure. And everything is as it should be.
All it takes is the ability to slow down, to change your perspective and see the events of your life in a new light.
You are already enlightened, you are already free. You just have to realise it.

For all of the average persons idealistic strivings and anxious worrying there is only one thing to hold on to.. that what is. How could it be any other way. There is no other spiritual dimension or perfected shangri la. This is what we have, and for the normal person when confronted with this they are either extremely frightened or extremely liberated. They spend 98% of their time trying to avoid this very notion. They live in idealised fantasy's and self made prisons chasing things that they assume will make them happy. They cling to what they know, what they have, what the possess and they will do anything to get more.
They condemn what is different from themselves and they identify and place labels on everyting. This is better then that, that belief is more right then the other.

But everything is just the way it is, it can not be any other way

Whats going on - Starting to write a book

For a long time I have wanted to write a novel and see it published. I have just decided to dedicate some time to pursue this dream and see it realised. The only problem.. what to write.

This has been my major stumbling block in the past, I have a lot of different things to say but I want to say them in a way that other people will be receptive to them.. should I write an action/thriller or a horror. When I was younger I used to like these sort of books, and they seem to sell.
But the whole thing of working with violence and fear really turns me off. Perhaps I will just write a rambling philosophical text about spiritual insights and the road to enlightenment.. hmm that doesnt sound to bad. Even if it only gets published on the web it will be enough for me

books that you should read

Human civilization is in quite a sorry state. Peak oil is approaching, the environment is in dire trouble and society is full of depressed people going through the motions.
When all this is happening you need to emancipate your thinking from the constant bombardment of lies that is designed to keep you sleepwalking with your shoulder to the grindstone.

Here are a couple of books to read to get you started.

The first is called Ishmael, by Author Daniel Quinn. I recommed you read this to get an overview of what civilized man is all about and break you free of some of the illusion that we are making "progess"

The second recommended read is Jed Mckenna : Spiritualy Incorrect Enlightement.
There is another way that civilized man is put under control. Read this book to find out what it is. Start the begining of the end in your search for fullfilment and start to see the truth for yourself.

All I can say of these two books is that they are mind blowingly thought provoking and I think aproach the same problem from different angles.

What I've Been Up To - Peak Oil

Hi All,

Been a week since i posted so thought I should get back to it. I have been busy for the last week intently reading about the coming peak oil crisis and what it will mean for civilization.
I won't send you to a particular site but go to google and search for "peak oil" and read some of the articles and sites that you find. This will give you a good overview of this problem that will affect each and every person on the planet. Now this may sound a bit alarmist or overly dramatic, but the entire economy of all first world and even third world nations runs on oil, and when the supply of oil begins to hit a peak and decline in relation to demand, then prices will skyrocket and we will see a multitude of problems, most probably leading to life as we know it now changing for everyone. There will be a return to small centralised communities and the requirement for greater self reliance.

Meditation - some of the best things are free.

Hi All,

Monday yet again and the cycle of the working week begins once more. One of the most beneficial things that I have found that to get myself through the grind of IT work is meditation. The ability to look inside onself, to still the crazy machine that is your mind and sit in silence has to be experienced to be believed. Only when you turn the mind in on itself can do you begin to see how out of control your "mind" is, how much noisy chatter it endlessly goes on with. You also begin to see how much tension you carry around in your body for no apparent reason.

I have been meditating seriously again for the past couple of months after a 5 month period where I stopped. The benefits have been felt straight away. I am able to concentrate a lot better and don't stress about much at all. In 5 minutes have myself centered, have everything in its true perspective and have a feeling of deep relaxation.. Not bad for something that is a) free and b) easy to do. I have meditated on and off for periods over the last 8 or 9 years going for months at a time of good practice, then getting drawn back into the world of work and school and bills etc. and making excuses of "not having enough time." Gradually at first and then I find that I havn't meditated in a week. Oh well I suppose it all has its purpose in the larger scheme of things.

If you want to get into meditating I can definately recommend the course at www.meditation.org.au as a wonderfull introduction to the practice of mediation.

Hi all,

What a great day I'm having.. car broke down on the way to work, pile of stuff on my desk when I got here... oh well whats a man to do but get on with it. Im still looking at making the transition from wage slave to entreperenuer in the near future but the dream is still a way off.

What I would like to talk to you about today is the truth. There is an old saying that the truth will set you free, and this one of the things that I truly believe. That when you get to the truth of a matter, behind the bullshit, and the spin abd the agendas of all parties concerned, you begin to see the picture as it really is.

This sounds simple and commonsense, but a vast majority of what see and do everyday is pointing us away from truth and towards illusion.

If you open your eyes and look for yourself you will see that things dont have to be the way they are just becuase "Thats the way that things have always been done" or even " that the bible says that this is the way".

Cast a skeptical eye over all around you becuase nearly everything your told on the street, everything you see on the TV, everything you read in the newspaper or even saw in a movie is designed to work for somebody else's agenda. Theres always something in it for someone if you follow the line that they are trying to sell you.

What I want to do with this blog is start pointing to some of these truths

Just found this great site today for the hosting of grassroots media.
Its called Ourmedia and it can be found http://www.ourmedia.org/

Its linked in with the creative commons organisation, which is promoting a more flexible form of copyright that is more flexible for both artists and consumers alike. I will write a lot more about the creative commons in the near future.

Ourmedia is offering free hosting for people to put their creative commons material on the web.
This can be videos, audio files, photos, text or software. It is forever and there are no catches.

Its great to see things like this start to take off. This is the begining of the future you know, the personel media revolution. Participatory culture

The lines between producer and consumer are blurring everyday.
There all of these incredibly talented people out there trying ot get their message across, and it is great to see somewhere that will act as an open central repository for ths material

And this is what the creative commons license is helping to promote.
It is different between different levels of creative commons license (you can check them out here)but they give power to the consumer and the creator of content. Here is a link to a presentation that details creative commons rights

If you like a peice of music and it was givern to you under creative commons, pass it on. If you like it even more use it in your next remix, or as the soundtrack in your new movie.
The only catch is that the derivitive peice is also then tied to the creative commons license, so that people can then perform the same kinds of operations from your derived media.
Sounds like media Utopia to me :)

Hi All,

Welcome to the my new blog and hopefully the start of a permanent pressence in the blogosphere.
I want to share with you my thoughts, impressions and theories on the wide range of topics that I find interesting and important. These range from the environment, globalisation, the state of society, metaphysics, philosophy, music and the arts. There is a lot of fresh new exciting stuff going on out there in the big wide world everyday, and sometimes its good to sit back and look at that great new book that was released, or that important event in the news that the media only gleamed over, or the important social theory that was only given 10cm of column space at the back of the tabloid newspaper.

I feel that life is a great adventure, and that although society and civilization has made(and is making) some grand mistakes, the future of humanity is bright as long as people are free to think and experiment with new modes and models of doing things.
